php(PHP Hypertext Preprocessor) introduction  

  • A programing language is an application used to express computation that can be performed with a machine ,particularly a machine.
  •   A scripting language application does not need to be compiled.
  • PHP is a scripting language.
  • PHP is a recursive acronym -stands for  "PHP Hypertext Preprocessor"  where again PHP stands for  "personal home page".
  •  PHP is used for 3 types of applications.
                    1. Command Line Scripting
                    2. Desktop/GUI based application
                    3. Web applications.
  •         The main purpose of PHP is to developed a web application.
  • A web application is a request-response machanism (or) a client-server methodology.
  • The programmes present in the client machine used for sending a request to the server and also to get the response from the server is called as client side programmes. 
            Eg: A web browser like IE
  • The programmes present in the server machine to recieve the request from client ,process it and give an appropriate response back to client is known as server side programes.
  • PHP is mainly used for developing server side programmes in a web application.
  • A server side programe has to be placed (or) deployed in a webserver.
  • A web server is a application running in the server machine capable of recieving clients request.
  • PHP programmes can be placed in most of the web servers like IIS, Apache etc.
  • PHP is open source that means PHP can be downloaded and used free of cost .
  • PHP can work with most of the database servers.
  • PHP applications are plotform independent.
